Many people lost their past with the burning down of the Siam Theatre in May 19, 2010. Built as a stand-alone huge movie house that could accommodate up to 1,000 viewers, now belongs to dust of the past. According to Chulalongkorn university's Assets Management Agency, the site will instead be developed as a shopping arcade, with a new five-storey building. But don't we already have too many shopping complexes? Let's see our SOA+D students's opinion about the potential of the place :
Panasit (Tung) Chaiyanan: Traditional puppet show theatre must be a tourist attraction situated here at the right of Siam. Tung said that it would show "Thainess" and invoke teenagers to see how important our culture is.
Thanida (Ni) Harnseree: Monument to remind what happened to this place. And she said that shopping is in everywhere in Bangkok, so it's sure to enlighten this place again with shopping spot along with the monument to remind that horrible situation.
Korapot (Ble) Sriauut: No more shopping arcade, seeing the structure of Digital Gateway. He personally thinks that it's not in a good design and lots of shops are closed now. Therefore, Siam Theatre Museum is a good choice to be opened for people to explore the root of Thai movie industry and also to launch new movie events and it will also link to Bangkok art and culture center too.
Pasunart (Thuu) Makanukhrao: Rebuild the place with the same style of Siam Theatre. She loves the mood and tone of the old Siam Theatre, so she prefers to keep it in that way.
